Believe it or not, summer is just around the corner and that means vacation time (mine, anyhow!). This is when many of us start shopping (in panic mode) for a new swimsuit. My personal preferences lean toward one-piece styles. I just find them more comfortable. Having completed an extensive search of my favourite websites (drumroll, please!), I offer you this year’s most popular swimsuit trends. I’ve also included my favourites because I like you THAT much. ;)
Sexy one-piece swimsuits
Yyyes, sexy one-piece swimsuits do exist (lol)! They come in a multitude of colours and prints, varying necklines, scoop-backs, and mesh detailing. There really is something for everyone.
Crocheted detailing? Yes please! Check’em out at Bikini Village. Click here.
A khaki green swimsuit with a plunging neckline and mesh details? What’s not to like? Available at H&M (35$).
Red Carter offers a variety swimsuits with low-rise backs and eye-catching details like this multi-strap number available at Bikini Village. I loveee it! Click here.
One of this summer’s hottest trends are high neck swimsuits. They have an edgy sporty look that’s rather unique. Be warned: your décolleté won’t tan (but a little spray-tan will do the trick!)
Floral prints are a perennial favourite and you’ll find lots of gorgeous options at Bikini Village. Click here.
Local designer Mimi Hammer has created several high neck swimsuit designs in an array of colours and prints for Summer 2017. I’m going completely nuts over the pomegranate print (which, by the way, is offered in a variety of styles!) Click here.
Women have long favoured either the underwire or the triangle top (yes, they’re still popular, I know!). This year, sporty bralettes are all the rage. They’re perfect for watersports and, most of the time, they stay put. Bonus!
I especially like this wrap style top available at Everyday Sunday. The “fooler” ties at the back keep it comfortably secure and it’s reversible! That’s like 2 tops in 1… gotta love that!
Sande Swimwear (owned by a close friend of mine) has made it her mission to offer women affordable custom-made swimsuits. Her minimalist designs are timeless; and being custom-made, the fit is sheer perfection.
Off-the-shoulders clothing has been popular in women’s fashion for well over a year. I’m absolutely thrilled to see that the style has been adopted by swimsuit designers for 2017! This lovely little number is available at La vie en rose.
A touch of retro
I could have included high-waisted swimsuit bottoms in this list but, truth be told, I’m a little tired of them. HOWEVER, if you like them, great! Retro styles are still very much a hit in the swimsuit aisles. I’ve been told more than once that I have the look of women from a bygone era so it’s probably not surprising that I have a penchant for retro styles.
The gathering in this one-piece swimsuit from Everyday Sunday is very figure-flattering. I really like the wide straps that start on each side of the bust. By the way, the straps are convertible! You can tie them in several different ways. Not a one-piece lover? No problem, Everyday Sunday offers bikinis with the same lovely features.
I recently discovered athletic swimwear by Makara Wear. Her designs feature high necklines and long sleeves (for sun protection). I really like the vibe I get from her creations. This swimsuit makes me think of Yves Saint Laurent’s famous Mondrian dress. I love the vintage look!
So? What do you think of the 2017 swimsuit trends? Which one will you be sporting this summer?
