I’m one of those people who feels cold 90% of the time. Fortunately, I’ve picked up a few tips and tricks, over the years, on how to dress warmly while still being stylish.
I started by scouring the internet, reading blogs, looking at Pinterest, and observing the people around me; all of which eventually led me to layering (dressing in layers) like a pro (well, let’s just say I’m very satisfied with the results).

I believe the two most important factors when layering are: make sure that every layer is visible, and avoid wearing bulkier clothing under more fitted (tailored) pieces.
My absolute favourite combo is a classic oxford shirt worn beneath a crew neck sweater (thick or thin), and if the shirt is long enough, wear it with the shirt tails peeking out from under the sweater. Add a jacket or oversized shawl if it’s chilly outside. The beauty of this combo is that you can wear it with either pants or skirts; and for a different look, simply tuck the layered tops into your skirt. The look is suitable for a professional office environment and Happy Hour at your favourite hangout! Try playing with a variety of fabrics for added flair. For example, a denim shirt worn beneath a sweater and boyfriend style jacket with the sleeves rolled up so that the sweater and shirt cuffs are visible.
Layering allows you to maximize the number of looks you can create without having to invest in an extensive wardrobe! It’s extremely versatile! Simply choose tops that are suitable to your environment.

This basic layering technique can be applied to just about everything. For example, a flannel shirt worn over a dress with the shirt tails knotted to create a more fitted look, and if it’s really cold outside, simply add a sweater.
If you who don’t get cold easily, give this popular combo a try: a silky cami (adds a sexy element to a layered look) worn beneath an off the shoulder chunky knit sweater that exposes the delicate lace detailing of the cami. If you’re more like me, try wearing a turtleneck sweater under a pretty slip dress.
The secret to layering lies in the layers themselves. Let some layers peek out from under others. You can wear as many layers as you like. One definite benefit of layering is being able to wear your summer clothes all year round. Talk about getting the biggest bang for your buck!
Tell me, what do you think of it all? Do you have any other tips for layering?
