As soon as I hit my twenties, my hormones went completely out of whack and BOOM! I started having issues with acne. I’m not talking about minor breakouts… nooo, I’m talking about mountain ranges all over my face! Gigantic pimples as red as a fire truck.

That’s when I started piling layer upon layer of foundation on my face in an effort to mask the chaos that had spread all over my face, my neck, my chest, and my back. I EVEN GET PIMPLES ON MY BUTT. It’s driving me crazy. I’ve been on an emotional coaster ride for the past 10 years. I’ve been having anxiety attacks. This whole situation has left me feeling insecure and I’ve missed out on accomplishing a ton of things due to my complete lack of confidence.

I’ve had to deal with a lot of intimidation throughout this entire time. Comments such as “200 layers of makeup can’t hide how ugly you are” or “makeup can’t hide your pizza face”, have really taken a toll on me. I can’t spend a weekend at the cottage, go camping or take out the trash without wearing a full face of makeup. The thought of letting people see my naked face is inconceivable.

I’ve tried everything, including contraceptive pills and every soap imaginable (including prescription soaps). I’ve tried countless DIYs as well as Roaccutane (which I had to stop taking due to anxiety), and then I turned my attention to professional clinics. After extensive research, I decided upon Mediluxe; a medical-aesthetic clinic located in Griffintown. I like the ambience and the staff and I feel like I’m in good hands. I had my first treatment last Monday and that’s just the beginning in what will be a lengthy process. I want to share my experience with you and tell you about the various procedures available for a variety of skin conditions.

I had numerous treatments, beginning with an Oxygen Facial, followed by five Peelings (which really scared me), a Micro-Needle procedure (similar to the one Kim Kardashian gets), and a blue light treatment to top it all off. Simply put, my pimples have been eliminated and my skin has been resurfaced.

Yesica, my medical assistant, recommended that I buy three high-end products. My boyfriend and I have seen an improvement in my complexion after just one week. The three products in question consist of a cleansing gel ($54) which I apply to my entire face after a first cleanse. The gel is left on my face for five minutes for optimum effectiveness.

Next, I have a serum ($124) which I handle with the greatest of care, just like I do with my most expensive clothing. The final product is a hydrating gel ($118). Altogether, these three products should be enough to get me through the next six months… and I plan to make the most of them. By the way, the oxygen facial I mentioned earlier is a real life-saver. It cleanses and brightens my skin and leaves it feeling soooo soft.

The three products Yesica recommended are made by Luzern. The first is the Cleansing Gelée which calms and balances skin, including oily acne-prone skin. Followed by the Serum Absolut Clarify which regulates the overproduction of sebum. It contains 2% salicylic acid & 5% niacinamide which controls the bacteria-causing acne and blemishes. A dime sized amount is enough to cover my chin, cheeks and forehead. Lastly, I apply a dime sized amount of Force De Vie Pure Oxygen Micro-Gel moisturizer all  over my face. It contains salicylic acid to help stabilize acne-prone oily skin, aka, mine. I’ll have a peeling treatment this week which I imagine will leave me looking like a snake shedding its skin. Anyhow, I’ll let you know how it goes!
