I’ve always enjoyed experimenting with fashion. I remember my father telling friends, when I was a teenager, that I had a unique style that suited me well. Unlike many, I’m not afraid of switching things up. Sometimes the results are great…. and sometimes they’re not.

I understand how difficult it can be for some people to step out of their comfort zone. Today, I’d like to talk to you about a dress style that’s popping up in stores everywhere. It’s a style that many of us admire from afar only (eg. Instagram): the long striped dress.

  • This statement dress definitely gets noticed, and if that’s something you’re uncomfortable with, you can tone it down with a minimalist approach to accessories: skip the statement jewelry, the big hats and the armful of bracelets. Just wear your watch, if you’re in the habit of wearing one! Keep your makeup, hairstyle and footwear, simple. I’m wearing a raspberry tinted lipstick for a touch of colour and glam!
  • Don’t go overboard. Sometimes, less really is more. Here, I’ve paired eye-catching black high heeled sandals with a delicate black handbag; neither of which overpower the dress.
  • Make sure that the length of the dress suits you. Have it shortened, if need be. You definitely don’t want it dragging on the ground.
  • If you need to wear a jacket, choose one that matches the color of your footwear, and avoid the boyfriend style at all cost: you don’t want to end up looking like a sack of potatoes!
